Devastating Update on Cargo Plane Incident: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The tally of lives lost due to the UPS cargo plane which burst into flames and crashed has now climbed to 13, per official announcements.

Mayor's Announcement

“On my way to the Union’s candlelight gathering, I learned of a additional fatality that died as a consequence of the aircraft crash,” wrote the local official in a social media post. “My prayers are with the families, associates and colleagues of all who were taken in this recently occurred disaster. We will overcome this as one.”

Deceased Named

An announcement from UPS listed the pilots operating the jet as Captain Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts are extended to all staff member who has been impacted and all in our Louisville region – supporting you and ensuring you receive the support and resources you need is our priority,” the firm’s communication read.

Probe Updates

Federal officials announced that the UPS cargo plane’s wing ignited and an power plant separated soon after departure from the aviation hub, resulting in the jet to crash and burst into a inferno.

The safety agency has said it is examining the plane’s service record, that was in the state for repairs weeks ahead of the crash.

Aviation records indicated the aircraft was on the tarmac in that location from 3 September to 18 October.

“We are aware that this aircraft was there in the facility,” said an investigator on Thursday, not giving a precise time frame. “We will examine all elements of service that was completed, from the San Antonio period, all the way to the day of the journey.”

Recovery of Vital Components

The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder were found, and the engine was located on the airfield.

The recorders – called black boxes – were built to endure accident forces and severe temperatures from infernos, and they seemed to be intact when discovered within the remains. Officials plan on reviewing information from the devices.

Jet’s concluding data recordings indicated an altitude of 475 ft and a velocity of 210 miles per hour ahead of the crash.

Service Record

Per FAA files dated last month, a crack on a structural piece within the tank area needed maintenance.

The company ST Engineering, which said it provides structural repairs for UPS’s aircraft and manages a maintenance center in San Antonio, declined to comment, but expressed it would cooperate fully when relevant authorities approached it.

Activities Resume

At the same time, UPS Worldport activities resumed that evening with its Next Day Air or nighttime process, representative Jim Mayer confirmed. All three landing strips at the airport were also back in operation.

The UPS package handling facility in the city is the firm’s biggest. The hub employs over a large number of individuals in the area, processes 300 flights daily and sorts more than 400,000 packages each hour.

Local Support

A gathering was held on the evening of 6 November by the area labor union, which supports employees at the airfield, the company’s primary shipping facility.

Worker representatives, which stands for UPS workers, began the gathering with a quiet tribute at that time, the estimated time of the accident before.

“This tragedy was so unexpected, so unexpected,” the official spoke to the crowd of two hundred. “No one had a moment to say goodbye to any one of those who we have lost.”
